Transplanted Trees Get a Drink
The transplanted trees by the new 15th tee have been treated to a water supply. The after care of such a process requires the transplanted trees to be watered if and when needed in dry/drought conditions for the first two years. Pressure compensated drip tube has been placed around each tree and will supply each tree with an average of 160 litres of water over an 8hr period.
UK Spring Weather

Safe as can be
The Oak Tree on the 12th that caught fire was assessed by Down2Earth; our Tree Management Consultants. The material that caught fire was only the rotten dry part within the tree, the main structural integrity of the tree remains stable and strong. As a precautionary measure between 20% & 40% of the tree was reduced to lighten the weight on the main stem.

Best Laid Plans
Sometimes it doesn't matter how organised you are, you just can't predict the weather and what it's going to throw at you next. Fridays work was all set and planned and due to a very windy night; on arrival to work those plans were ripped up and tossed in the bin. Debris was everywhere, so before any work could commence it was all hands on deck blowing. A Silver Birch also fell across the 11th tee, which required cutting up and clearing.

Bunker Construction
The new constructed bunkers have been turfed and now it is a case of waiting for the turf to root and grow-in. The bunkers will remain GUR until such time when they are opened for play.
Warmth = Growth
Now that temperatures are increasing the base feed to the Greens and Aprons was finally applied on Tuesday 7th May. Normally this is undertaken late March - April, however due to the wet & cold conditions this was delayed. When the feed kicks in over the next few days the different grass species on the greens should level off and with a lite sand dressing being applied soon the smoothness of the putting surfaces will improve. As well as this the height of cut will be reduced.

Fire / Call 999
The large Oak Tree to the right of the 12th Green somehow caught fire from within.
After attempts failed to put out the fire using hoses connected to the irrigation system, the Fire Brigade were called. Advice was asked, however the Firemen pleaded to attend as they were bored.
All in all an eventful Bank Holiday Sunday Afternoon, (for Deputy Course Manager Bert).

Bunker Construction and Re-Shaping
The two bunkers on the 14th are almost complete. Lining was added to the base of the bunkers to prevent migration and contamination of materials through the sand. This process is being trialled in these two bunkers and hopefully it will prove to be successful over the coming years.
Lake Edge Revetments Complete
Erosion problem solved and now the lake edge looks tidy and now looks visually appealing and a real feature of the hole.
