14th Bunker Refurbishment

The Refurbishment of two bunkers on the 14th started on Monday 22nd April. The bunkers will be reshaped and the base lined with AstroTurf.
The bunker on the fairway is having its face reduced and the mound rolled over, to what would have been its origninal shape.
The greenside bunker will be shaped and turned so that it is facing the green and not the 15th tee.

First time of 2013

The greens had there first cut on a weekend for 2013 today. A sure sign that summers on its way. It nearly didn't happen though as there was an early morning frost. Fortunately it cleared quickly off the greens. Bare a thought for the greenkeepers hands sitting on the mower!

Stump Grinding

The stumps remaining from the tree work completed over the winter were removed today using a stump grinder.

The remains of the 3rd Chestnut tree stump are removed

15th Tee Update

Work progresses well on the 15th. The transplanted trees were fitted with wire guys to maintain stability. The rootzone layer has been applied to the tee and has had the first laser level pass. The new pathway has also been backfilled.

15th Tee Update

The stone carpet (drainage layer) is now complete. Before the Rootzone is added to the tee, work moved onto laying the base of the new path and moving the old tees irrigation valve assembly.

2-3 inch Stone carpet layer complete. The edges of the tee are built up to contain it.

Path edging installed

This trench is for a new pipeline to serve irrigation to the new tee.

Digging out to move the old tee valve assembly off the new path.

18th Lake Update

Only a handful of posts remain to be installed and then the boarding can begin.

15th Tee Update

Work on the new 15th tee continues after work stopped for two days due to bad weather and poor conditions. Installation of drainage and the construction of a new path started towards the new tee.

Surprise surprise

Another one of those days when you come into work and something unexpected happens that needs to be dealt with quickly. A fallen tree across the pathway on Red Lodge Road.

Course Open - or Closed

Having inspected the course I am more than happy for the competition to go
ahead. If we had been back in March with no sign of summer arriving then the
outcome would be different. The temperatures are rising and growth and
recovery will soon be upon us. The forecast for the day is good and
conditions will improve slowly throughout the day. Taking all things into
consideration and the coming work scheduled for the course; any damage will
soon be rectified.
There are puddles in places but around these the ground is firm. The 11th is
poor; however it cannot get much worse, relief can be taken from casual
water and as long as pitch marks are repaired and trolley lines are
respected we should be fine.

Happy Golfing,

One Step Forward - Two Steps Back

Due to the recent rainfall the work on the 15th hole has temporarily stopped until conditions improve.
The rest of the course has flooded in places and the 11th hole required closing again due to very poor ground conditions.

There was some good news before the rain came in. The irrigation pipework to the tee was layed in.

and the fairways were treated with an Iron tonic

18th Lake Improvement Project

The erosion of the lake, particularly at one area on the path edge is being addressed with the construction of boarding along the lake edge. This will both contain the bank and stop erosion; and improve presentation and maintenance of the lake edge.

15th New Tee and Tree Planting Project

The clearance work and site preparation of the new tee begins. Ten trees were also transplanted as part of the project to form protection and screening to the front right of the tee. The trees were selected from a variety of places around the course.
